Description |
This print is a photographic copy of a portrait of Rhoda Ellis Noble Lee, who read a paper at General Conference in Abilene, KS. in 1894 appealing to the church "that a missionary fund may be started and a systematic method of foreign work be organized". This spurred the church to become actively involved in foreign missions. On May 18, during the conference, a foreign mission fund was established with Jacob Stauffer as treasurer. He placed the first $5.00 bill on a table to be used to begin the fund. Rhoda Lee seized a hat and passed it through the audience to receive an offering for foreign missions. |
